A new semester has begun and I've been hard at work on a new song.
For this song I decided to forget about song form and tried to focus on rhythms that would be interesting for a player to play.
One challenge that I've been facing lately is having my mix get really muddy when all the sounds are playing. For this song I tried focusing on overcoming this by putting each sound in it's own 3d space between the speakers. I did this using volume to bring sounds forward and back, using an equalizer to move the sounds up and down, and panning to move the sounds left and right.
This didn't take care of all my issues however, while each sound worked great in it's defined place, when everything was played together there was still problems with the combined sound getting too hot. Even when bringing everything down it didn't sound quite right and things got a little scary.
After a lot of tweaking I couldn't get it perfect, but here is the result.
